""Human beings are unable to be honest
with themselves about themselves.
They cannot talk about themselves without embellishing.
This script portrays such human beings,
the kind who cannot survive
without lies to make them feel they are
better people than they really are.
It even shows this sinful need for
flattering falsehood going beyond the grave,
even the character who dies cannot give up his lies
when he speaks to the living through a medium.
Egoism is a sin the human being carries with him from birth;
it is the most difficult to redeem.
This film is like a strange picture scroll
that is unrolled and displayed by the ego."

RASHOMON
 Is there Absolute Truth?
If there is, why is it being veiled?
 What is Ignorance?
The Mutual-Superimposition of Self and Non-Self is Ignorance.
Action is its result. Hence, all Action is Ignorance.
 The Self is Actionless.
 Seer-Seeing-Seen, the triad, is the form of Ignorance;
arising out of the Mutual-Superimposition of Self and Non-Self.

Seer-Seeing-Seen, the triad, is Duality and Relativity.
Seer-Seeing-Seen, the triad, is unreal and illusory.
Seer-Seeing-Seen: The One Consciousness cannot split into three.
  Seer-Seeing-Seen:
When all three are one undivided consciousness,
who is there to see? What is there to be seen?
How can there be seeing?
Seer-Seeing-Seen: Their existence is like an apparition.
   Seer-Seeing-Seen:
This triad alone is the root of cyclic existence.
Absolute Truth can only be realised when
the Mutual-Superimposition of Self and Non-Self is removed,
and the triad of Seer-Seen-Seeing perishes.
And Self, that is Pure Consciousness, alone remains.
Non-Self is the Individual Self.
One's true Self is the Self of all.
To doubt another is to doubt one's own Self.
To trust another is to trust one's own Self.
The Self is Absolute Truth.
Atman is Brahman.
